Mortgages and Automobiles

THE terrible financial strain required “to keep up with the times”—modern times—is well illustrated in one way by a statement recently made by one dealer in automobiles, in Washington, D. C. He stated that he holds mortgages on over twenty-five hundred homes in this city, which were given that automobiles might be obtained. Such conditions are ominous. This craving for pleasure and excitement is permeating every walk of life. It requires a goodly portion of the grace of God to protect one from the oppressing influence of these strenuous times. The follower of Christ is surrounded by the downward currents of evil, and must therefore be continually on guard. C. E. H.
