The Progressive Teacher

As long as we live, we should grow. Progress is the watchword of him who is truly a teacher. He brings his own mind into a continual state of study, that he may teach his pupils the love of study. Teaching is a gift of God; but like all God's other gifts, it dwarfs if it is not exercised. But it is only the one who is seeking development along all lines that make for Christian manhood and womanhood, that can properly instruct so that they too will grow. The progressive teacher seeks always to increase his fund of useful knowledge, and is never content to be idle. He seeks to become a more thoughtful reader and a more effective speaker. He looks well to his deportment, that it may always bespeak refinement and purity of heart. He remembers that we teach more forcibly by what we are, than by what we say. He seeks to be what he wishes others to think he is, and so he grows.
