Homeless Children.

A RECENT writer states that, “in the city of New York, there are 12,000 children under twelve years of age, 7,000 of whom have no shelter, not knowing at morning where they can sleep at night, and the rest having shelters revolting to behold.” The like of this prevails to a greater or less extent in every city in the Union. New York is no exception; nor is it in proportion to its population worse than some others of our cities. This is, almost wholly, to be charged to the drink curse as one of its natural and legitimate effects.—Messiah's Herald.
