The Steel Square Pocket Book

“The Steel Square Pocket Book.” “A Practical and Handy Treatise Giving the Best Methods of Using the Carpenter’s Steel Square.” By Dwight L. Stoddard. Cloth binding; price, 50 cents. Industrial Publishing Company, New York.
This volume has 150 pages of matter and a good index. It is brimful of information in simple language that the ordinary mechanic can understand, concerning the carpenter’s steel square. Brief paragraphs, together with plain illustrations and diagrams on nearly every page, make it easy for the possessor of the book to determine the lengths and bevels of any kind of rafter from the simple gable roof to the more complex octagon, circular, curved, and ogee roofs. Hip, valley and jack rafters, with all their lengths and bevels are fully explained. And a most desirable feature of the book is its convenient pocket size, 3½ x 5 inches. With this volume in the pocket, the progressive mechanic will soon be able to feel perfectly at home in cutting any kind of rafter, brace, or other timber where lengths and bevels have to be figured on the angle.
