OUR DEAD AND WOUNDED WARRIORS.—

The official returns in the U. S. War Department show that the whole number of deaths reported in the army since the war broke out will aggregate 325,000. These are the dead on one side only. If we assume the mortality on the rebel side at 175,000, which is certainly inside the mark, we have a total of 500,000 who have perished in the war. There are, in addition, at least half a million on both sides who are permanently disabled by wounds or sickness, making the number of victims over a million of human beings who have been sacrificed to intemperance, ignorance, fanaticism, ambition, and treason.
