A Preacher Arrested

REV. O. C. SEVERS, of East Liverpool, Ohio, was recently lodged in jail at Chester, W. Va., for five days, and fined fifteen dollars on the charge of using loud and boisterous language, and making certain charges, in a sermon against the Catholic Church, tending to incite that riot. Severs calls himself an evangelist, and says he is at the head of a sect known as “Mission Saints.” The hearing occurred in the presence of five hundred people. It is alleged that Severs had been making bitter attacks on all the churches in Chester and their ministers. His charges against the Catholic Church were especially severe, and members of the congregation secured the affidavit.
