The Anniversary of October 22, 1844
THE return of another anniversary of the tenth day of the seventh month, 1844 (October 22), reminds us that “this generation” is now more than threescore years old, and that all things must soon be fulfilled. Years of patient and prayerful study of the prophecies have only served to strengthen confidence in the interpretation which has made the year 1844 a notable one in this advent movement—a landmark on the journey to the kingdom. Every passing year brings us so much the nearer to the consummation of all our hopes. “Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. . . . Stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”
