Religious Instruction in Public Schools

IN the Pacific Commercial Advertiser of November 1, published at Honolulu, H. I., we find a communication of considerable length written by Elder C. D. M. Williams, setting forth the reasons for opposing the introduction of religious instruction into the public schools of that city. It appears that this question is being agitated there, and that the Advertiser has approved of the plan under the plea of teaching morality in the schools. Brother Williams presents the sound principles of religious liberty, and declares that “this introduction of religion into the public schools is a menace to the religious freedom of our country.”
