LIGHT DAWNING.

"We clip the following from The Baptist:—
"We have always thought the Divinity suffered. Christ is Divine as well as human. And the whole Christ suffered. We can't tell the mode of the suffering. Of course, though, it was not physical.' So thinks the editor of the Baptist Banner, Illinois, a clear headed man and a sound Baptist, and so we think every lost sinner thought when he prostrated himself at the foot of the cross. It never entered a penitent sinner's mind that he was praying to a suffering man to save him when he looked to the sufferer of Calvary to save him."
"We are glad to have Brother Graves' faith coincide with ours on this question. All honor to the Divine Sufferer!"
The above we find in the Baptist Banner. Our wonder is that reverent men who read their Bibles could ever find anything else written therein. A sacrifice merely human could not atone for the violations of God's holy law. We believe with Andrew Fuller, that the glory and efficacy of the atonement consists in the dignity of the offering. The Son of God died for man. We do not think much of "hymn-book theology," as a general thing, yet it is sometimes in advance of that of the schools. When our friends sing, "The Lord of glory died for men," their song is Scriptural, though it often contradicts the creed.
