The New Year

The record of the past year is made up. We cannot change that record in the smallest particular. But the record of the new year is as yet a blank. It is in our power to have that record such as we shall be willing to meet in the judgment. Let the first things recorded of us in the new year be the act of unreserved submission of our whole being to God. Let the next be that of the deepest repentance for the sins and errors of the year past. Then let us live moment by moment in humble, active obedience to God. Thus shall we make a record which we shall meet with holy triumph at the last day. To many of us, this will be the last year of life. Who of us shall have our houses set in order, and be ourselves prepared for the close of our pilgrimage should we meet that event the present year?
