Invisible Friends

ELIZA H. MORTON
THE light of many tempted ones Is waxing dim. Earth's cup of wickedness will soon O'erflow its brim; But Jesus sends his angels down With mighty power, Invisible, but with us now This very hour.
With courage, ye who dwell below, Lift up your eyes. Behold the armies of the Lord! Awake, arise!
By faith we see those beings bright Around us here; They talk with us as friend with friend; We know they're near.
And closer still when we are tried, Or sick and sad, They labor to uplift our hearts To make us glad.
When we are blessed in winning souls, The word above Is heralded before our God With holy love.
And heaven is brought so near the earth That we discern The ladder bright that Jacob saw, And this truth learn, That earth recedes far out of sight When we behold The city with the pearly gates And streets of gold.
