Character and Endurance

CHARACTER is the power of endurance among men. I have seen men start out with brilliant prospects, and fall; and I have never yet known a real failure in politics which was not traceable to a breakdown in the morals of the man. Not, I mean, in his habits necessarily, for that is not the only indication of morals; but in his conception of life, in the fundamentals which control him.—Wm. Jennings Bryan.
