The Mystery

EDW. J. URQUHART
THROUGH the long, cold winter evenings, When the stars are shining bright, And I view their mellow luster As they shine from night to night,
When I think of God, the maker, The upholder of them all, I am led to say with David As I on my Father call:
What is man that thou art mindful Of him as he lives his day? Why such gift by Heaven given In behalf of mortal clay?
O, such love I can not fathom, Try as hard as e'er I may! But I own, dear, loving Saviour, I am thine, yes, thine for aye;
And when dawns the endless morning When thy glorious face I see, What to-day the shadows cover Thou wilt then make plain to me.
Winton, Cal.
