The Mexican Situation

THE reports of the week indicate that the forces in opposition to the new government in Mexico have been materially augmented, and that the situation is less promising than it appeared the previous week. There has been a renewal of rebel activity along the border and much apprehension on the part of Americans in border cities. Because of a fear of international complications, the federal garrison at Agua Prieta has decided to evacuate the city, so as to avoid a battle at that border town. It is reported that the insurgents are now in complete control of the state of Sonora. Both railway and wire communications are blocked, and the insurgents expect to be able to check any advance of the federals.
