The Bridge We Never Cross

How oft we trouble borrow, And suffer mental pain, Conjuring clouds to-morrow, While yet no signs of rain; Future gloom foreboding, At night on pillows toss, In fear of overloading The bridge we never cross.
From road there is no turning That we can see just now, Trouble ahead discerning, To avoid we know not how; And so we roll and tumble At night, with sleep a loss, And hear the distant rumble On the bridge we never cross. — Selected.
