“Waiting”

ROBERT HARE

Waiting, Lord, waiting while days come and go, Waiting while midnights pass solemn and slow, While eve and morning their numbers repeat, Waiting, Lord, still, Thy echoing feet. Sandled and dust-stained they walked by the sea, But now glory-shooned they are coming for me.
Touched with our weakness, oft friendless, alone, The mountains Thy temple, Thy pillow a stone, O tempest-tossed Stranger, on blue Galilee, How sweet are the echoes that whisper to me! Yet sweeter and greater and brighter by far, We long to behold Thee as heaven’s “Morning Star.”
Waiting, Lord, prophets rejoicing have told Of mansions and city with pathways of gold, Of glorified visions, eternal and fair, Built by Love’s hand, and just over there. Waiting, Lord, waiting for these and for Thee, The once lowly Master of blue Galilee.
