GOD KNOWETH BEST.

Oft we murmur at God's doings And would make our wants the guide, Though assured he knoweth all things, Knoweth what may best betide.
He who orders all, omniscient, Knoweth ev'ry human breast, And he sendeth the most needful, For he knoweth what is best.
Nature in her native anthem, When the day wakes her from rest, Chants in glad refrain, God knoweth, Ever knoweth what is best.
And at noontide, robed in splendor, Wears from vale to mountain crest Tokens that proclaim, God knoweth, Ever knoweth what is best.
So in grateful vesper-worship, When the sun sinks in the west, Gives her grand response, God knoweth, Ever knoweth what is best.
Over all this vast creation, In its varied beauties dressed, Unseen fingers write, God knoweth, Ever knoweth what is best.
—M. B. Gleason.
