THE POWER OF A MOTHER'S VOICE.

A mother sang to her child one day A song of the beautiful home above, Sang it as only a woman sings Whose heart is full of a mother's love.
And many a time in the years that came, He heard the sound of that low, sweet song; It took him back to his childhood days; It kept his feet from the paths of wrong.
A mother spoke to her child one day In an angry voice that made him start As if an arrow had sped that way And pierced his loving and tender heart.
And when he had grown to man's estate, And was tempted and tried, as all men are, He fell; for that mother's angry words Had left on his heart a lasting scar. — Charles S. Carter.
