The Pope’s Wealth

There is not much danger of His Holiness, the pope, coming to want in his old age. Last year the “Peter’s pence” and jubilee indulgences netted him $4,000,000. The Emperor Ferdinand of Austria left him $3,000,000; as heir of the Duke of Modena he can calculate on an income of $50,000 a year; Lord Ripon gave him $50,000 outright; a Belgian convert, $40,000; and a pious old lady, recently deceased, $100,000.—Boston Herald.
