THE OPEN DOOR.

WORTHIE HARRIS HOLDEN. (Chicago, Ill.)
The door is open. Why are closed thine eyelids? Behold what Christ in love hath done for thee! The veil is rent in twain,—no more through priesthood Needst thou thy Lord and thy Redeemer see.
The door is open. Now thou mayest behold Him, As Stephen saw, and with enraptured gaze Fastened upon the Prince of Life his vision, The while his heart welled forth in prayer and praise.
The door is open. John the belov'd beheld it, A way into the holiest of all, Where sin and sorrow, strife and pain, are conquered, And lauding Him, the angels prostrate fall.
Ah! would that we were more like unto children Who quickly turn to greet an open door, And press with eager haste the unbarred threshold, Leaving all else to enter and explore.
Lord, grant, I pray, the unguent of thine eyesalve, Ope thou our eyelids with thy touch divine, That naught may seem more real than thy vision, And all our being bow before thy shrine.
