Since reporting last, my time has been spent in writing, confirming the believers in the truth, and preparing to labor where the Lord may direct, and we have all realized that the Lord is gracious and willing to help. Praise his name!
Last Sabbath was a precious day to us as we met at Bro. Burr's (Locust Grove), where we have stopped a number of weeks. Spoke on the sacrificing part of religion; and the few present appeared very willing to act their part in showing gratitude for the truth. We think they will not be behind in responding to the sacrifice of the brethren North in bringing them the truth. They were inveterate users of tobacco, tea, coffee, and swine's flesh, but have voluntarily and heroically dropped these articles.
All took some part in our last meeting, even the little children. It was a sweet season. God's free Spirit was in their midst. We had long desired to see this breaking down. May the work prove permanent. I believe these friends are taking hold of God that they may stand whether they have much ministerial labor or little.
If consecration is needed in one place more than in another, it is in the South. Family prayer is almost wholly neglected. It is a rare thing for laymen to take part in social meetings. But from what we have seen, we firmly believe that, with the love of God in the heart and the blessing of God's Spirit, these and other difficulties will vanish away like snow before a warm April sun. Oh! for a more thorough consecration to God! Oh! for a thorough victory over pride, selfishness, and love of approbation! Oh! for a baptism into the Spirit and love of Christ, and a revival of apostolic times, that the work of God may be cut short in righteousness! Wherever my lot may be cast, I am resolved to walk more closely with God.
