Episcopalians and Tobacco.

The Detroit Evening News of a recent date rescues the following item from a report to a religious convention, and thus saves from comparative oblivion a powerful sermon on the subject of tobacco, exposing the fearful waste by professed Christians, on this dirty indulgence, of means which should be devoted to better uses. Forty thousand dollars a year in only one diocese of one denomination in a portion of a single State, sacrificed to this miserable Moloch, is a frightful picture.
“One shudders to think of the amount of tobacco which must be used by the Episcopalians of Michigan. In a report of what was done at the Western Michigan diocesan convention at Grand Rapids, Rev. J. S. Large, of Big Rapids, is quoted as saying that if the church members of the diocese would give up tobacco for three months, and apply the amount of money thus saved to missionary work, they would be able to raise $10,000.”
