A well-informed writer in the Fortnightly Review estimates the total Moslem population at 175,000,000. These figures reveal the real strength of Islam. The New York Herald says of Mohammedanism: “It is not to be regarded as a waning power. On the contrary, it is making its conquests in India, and in the tropical regions of the far eastern seas; and, if we are to be guided by the facts of history and by the examples of the past, its complete conquest of Africa is only a question of time.”
