Notice to Missionaries

IN sending photos, please do not seal the packages against inspection by the post-office officials. When they are sealed, the customs bureau here at the Washington post-office holds them, causing us unnecessary expense and delay in getting them. Recently excess postage of fifty-six cents was charged because a package containing a photo was sealed. The charge by the foreign government against this was at the rate of letter postage. Were it not that this government had already been charged, the officials here could waive the excess, on learning it was not actually due. But because another government has made this charge, the receiver must pay the excess, although it may not be justly due. By simply wrapping photos so they will not become crushed, and leaving them unsealed for inspection to guard against smuggling, there will be no extra expense, neither delay in getting them from the mails after their arrival in this country. MISSION BOARD.
