San Francisco and Oakland.

The good work is advancing in San Francisco. A spirit of labor for souls is taking possession of the minds of our brethren and sisters; as a result, the influence of the truth is extending, and new ones are inquiring the way. I attended the prayer-meeting at the church in San Francisco last Tuesday evening. Two new ones signed the covenant. The elders report several cases awaiting baptism and admission to the church.
Last Sabbath and First-day were good days to the church in Oakland. The list of members was examined, as in other places, four new members were received by letter, and two by vote of the church. Bro. E. R. Gillett was elected as a second elder of the church. There were three district prayer-meetings organized. A work of visiting interested ones is having its effect here. Some are embracing the truth who will soon unite with us.
The monthly missionary meeting in Oakland last Sunday was the best we have had. Measures were adopted to secure a greater interest in the circulation of the SIGNS. The Oakland and San Francisco churches are adopting the plan of mailing a few copies of the SIGNS to friends, and, after a few numbers, following them with postal cards of inquiry. This will not be without results.
To-day a card was received at the SIGNS Office from a postmaster in a distant State, written to the postmaster in Oakland, stating that he had heard there was a paper called the SIGNS or the TIMES, and requesting him to secure him some sample copies. Such circumstances stir our souls to make efforts to send good sample copies, with prospectus, all through the State. Pray for the success of the work, and as we pray let us do all we can on our part to reach souls with the Lord's truth.
