In the Chicago Standard's letter from New York occurs the following passage concerning some of the doings of the Presbyterian General Assembly recently convened in that city: “Saturday before adjournment was spent in a discussion of great interest to some delegates, and of but little to others. The question was, ‘Is the Roman Catholic church a church of Christ, or not?’ Dr. Musgrove led in this discussion, taking the negative with great earnestness. He cited its modes of worship, its crimes, its doctrines, and claimed that it was essentially pagan. We do not wonder that the question of Romish baptism troubled the assembly. Pedobaptists have no alternative but to accept the Romish baptism or reject their own. Bible baptism would be a decided improvement on both.” We agree with this letter writer concerning the “Romish baptism” accepted by the Presbyterians, but ask the Baptist how he can take exceptions to this when he also accepts the Romish Sunday instead of the Sabbath of the Lord? The Bible Sabbath would be a decided improvement on this heathen, Roman Catholic Sunday. Will our Baptist brethren please take note of this?—Sabbath Recorder.
