Silent Preachers.

A FRIEND in Madison, Wisconsin, writes as follows:
“I am a new subscriber to your paper, and have become very much interested in it and the cause it advocates. Madison is a town of about 10,000 inhabitants, and I do not suppose there are ten persons here who believe we are living in the last days, and I know of but one Sabbath-keeper, and that is myself. I do wish that the truth might be preached to these people. Can there not be some effort made in that direction? I feel as if I ought to do something, so have made up my mind to order five copies of your paper to distribute here.”
This is a very commendable course to take. We much deplore that there are not in our ranks preachers sufficient to send into all such fields to present the truth to the people; but these we have not at present. We would, however, say to all who have made similar requests for labor, that we have in this city a good supply of “silent preachers,” which we can send at any time, to any address, and which will, if judiciously distributed, do even more towards creating an interest in the truths we hold than the living preacher could do by giving a few short lectures.
As has been previously stated, we are giving in the SIGNS, from week to week, a regular “Course of Lectures,” which takes up point after point of our faith in the order usually followed by our ministers in new fields. This makes it just the paper to place in the hands of those who are not acquainted with our views. Try it brethren, as this sister has done, and let these silent preachers prepare the way for the living preacher. M. W.
