San Francisco.

Some advancement is being made in the work in San Francisco. Our tent-meeting, notwithstanding the two rains, has been quite well attended. Our tent is pitched near the new church, and the meeting will teach hundreds the location of the church building.
We have used upwards of 50,000 bills and copies of a small paper called the Tent Meeting, of which seven numbers have been issued from the press in Oakland. These papers treat upon subjects introduced in the meetings, and each contains also, either some rare piece of music or useful tablet, which gives them a tone far above ordinary handbills and makes them eagerly sought. The same is true of our small bills. They were printed on both sides, a piece of music being on the back. Of these we have placed 15,000 in the street cars. We have also had a standing notice in the daily papers for a month and special notices every Sunday. All this, though incurring some expense, has resulted in furnishing us, from the first, a good audience of intelligent hearers. We are now in the midst of the investigation of the Sabbath question. Several have already taken their stand to keep the Sabbath. We are visiting, and preaching, conversing, and seeking to come near the people for whom we labor, and, with all praying earnestly that God's signal blessing may follow the effort.
It is expected that the meeting-house in San Francisco will be ready for dedication about Dec. 1. The second coat of plaster is to be put on this week, and the house will be rapidly completed. When the house is done the meetings will be adjourned to the church, and the tent will probably be taken to some other feasible point for another series of meetings until spring.
