THE secular biographer usually depicts the good only in the individuals whose lives he records. The sacred writers hesitate not to show the power of sin as manifest oftentimes even in the true servants of God.

The one instance of irritability in Moses, the one great sin of David, the idolatry of Solomon, the self-deceit of Balaam, and the weakness of human nature generally, are all faithfully portrayed by the pen of inspiration. These records are for our encouragement, and testify to the truthfulness of the Bible.
