Medical Men in Heathen Lands

Desired Prayer Rather than Medicine

BY RILEY RUSSELL, M. D.
OLD Kim, in the village of Sa Tong, was stuck in the abdomen with needles for indigestion; and when he was nearly dead, his friends decided to call the foreign doctor. We had him brought to our dispensary; and after vigorous treatment, he made a good recovery.
Last week, his wife became quite sick, and some of the family came for us; but being very busy, we sent our helper, the Korean doctor. A little later, her son, a teacher, came and said that his mother wanted us to please come and see her before she died. I took my wheel, and started for the place, five miles away; but before I had gone a mile, I ran into a ditch full of snow, and broke my wheel.
What was my surprise, on reaching the place, to find that what they wanted was not medical attention, but prayer. So after a short season, in which the whole family and a large number of visitors joined, we left for home. The old woman was completely well in a day or so, and now the eldest son is on the point of yielding his life to God.
Soonan, Korea.
