He Leadeth Me

[By LLEWELLYN A. WILCOX]
I CANNOT know the way to go, Except my Shepherd lead me. I go astray from out the way, And perish, lest He feed me.
But He doth lead, and every need Of mine is e’er supplying. He fills my soul with self-control, And soothes in love my sighing.
He leadeth still by fount and rill, When I for thirst am panting; And through His grace and tenderness, I am in nothing wanting.
Though courage fail in death’s dark vale, And though the shadows lengthen, The staff and rod and hand of God My faltering footsteps strengthen.
In Him I hide, in Him abide. No ill nor foe surrounding Will, as I rove, drown out His love And blessings so abounding.
If aught befall, on Him I call, And He remains beside me. I need not fear when He is near; No harm can then betide me.
So through the strife of mortal life, God’s goodness faileth never; And thus e’er blest, in Him I rest Forever and forever.
