The Old and the New

BY WORTHE HARRIS HOLDEN
The curfew tolls the passing of the year. Hushed are its voices, vanished is its cheer, Gone is the sorrow of its fervored day; We softly tread, then silent turn away.
The chiming bells ring out, The New, the New! Their tones reach all the wide world through. Come calm or tempest, God is ever near; With courage ring thy chimes throughout the year.
A year to do and dare for truth and right, A year to shine amid earth's darkest night; Ring for each day a welcome glad and free, For nearer dawns a blest eternity!
