ONE can learn to live nobly only by acting nobly on every occasion, and under all circumstances. If at any time a compromise of principle is indulged because present company is not favorable to rectitude, a soul weakness is at once developed that will not only produce instability at a later similar trial, but will in time break down confidence in one’s power to succeed in any position of trust. On this point one should ever be fortified by the apostolic exhortation, “Add to your faith virtue.” Virtue, being eminently the display of courage in doing that which one believes to be right, constitutes an essential in every walk of life. It should then be assiduously cultivated, even at the sacrifice of associates who may consider it but a prudish attribute.
