Tornadoes and the Signs of the Times

On September 21 a tornado swept through Maryland, doing much damage. We have been assured by men who were doubtless honest and well-meaning that the plains of the Middle West were the home and the territory of the tornado, that we would not have it in the Eastern States, nor in the Old World. It is well to observe how these assurances, which were said to be based upon a scientific foundation, are overthrown. The tornado and other forms of violent storm are increasing in the long settled and thickly populated East as well as in the West. There is a deep meaning to these things, and we should take it to heart. The readers of this paper are fully aware of the prophecies that have spoken upon the subject, and that tell of the storms and pestilences that will sweep over the world in the last days.
