The Electrically Driven Collier Jupiter

The Jupiter, the new naval collier that the United States has been building, received her test recently. Her engines, in the place of driving a propeller, generate electricity, and the ship is electrically driven. It is claimed that this experiment is watched by ship-builders in all parts of the world, particularly those who are constructing naval vessels. A great economy is claimed in this plan of propelling a ship. She will have a much wider sailing range, with a big saving of fuel.
