The Appeal to Reason is authority for the statement that “enough public money was spent last year on war equipment and maintenance of armies and navies to build a home for every homeless family on the face of the earth.” If this amount of money is spent every year, we ask the question, Shall God be blamed for the poverty and misery in the world to-day? It is very evident, from this statement, that God has made ample provision in this world to-day for all His creatures. Men who are stewards of God become servants of one who is antagonistic to God, and follow purposes in opposition to all the Creator’s work. Thus there is war and crime and sin and misery, but the cause of it does not lie with the Creator.
