The Highest Form of Success

ELIZABETH CADY STANTON once said that there are three degrees of success. These may be enumerated somewhat as follows: The most common quality, and that which seems most to engage attention, is the ability to accumulate wealth. The next highest, and one which greatly stimulates human ambition, is the aptitude to win intellectual strength. But the third step upward, and the one most to be desired, is devotion to principle in behalf of needy humanity. No higher success is allotted to earth-born dwellers than this last named quality. On this basis, the life of an unselfish reformer, although the stake and the fagot may end his work, is the grandest form of success. J. O. C.
