GOD’S WORD ENDURES

SPEAKING concerning the immutability of His word, Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.” Matt. 24:35.
Earthly things do pass away, but the word of God endures. Kingdoms, proud and stately, have gone down. Great cities, with their busy marts, have passed away. So effectually have they disappeared that they cannot be located on the map.
But God’s word endures. It has been cursed and burned, but it is still here. It is by the word of God that the heavens hold together. It was by the word of God that the heavens were made. Men talk learnedly of gravitation and cohesion, but these are only scientific terms with which to hide their ignorance. All things are held together by the word of God.
A writer comments on this text thus: “Yon sun may burn to a blackened cinder; yon ocean may be emptied from its bed; yon stars may fall like autumn leaves; yon mountain may meet in the blaze of a judgment’s conflagration; all nature may be destroyed and made new again; but above the wreck of worlds and systems, the last syllable Jesus has ever spoken shall stand forever.”
