When Sorrows Cease

By Delois Rea Baker
But yesterday my heart o'erflowed with grief, And then a tear tore from its secret stem, And scurried down my cheek, as a dew gem Might straggle down the wrinkles of a leaf, In beauty rivaling that one the thief Hunts for, sewed up within a jacket's hem, But far more frail than e'er a one of them, With an existence, O, so very brief! Oft do my eyes bleed bitter, blinding brine, For often sorrow probes my tender heart. But I know this will not forever be; For in the promised land of milk and wine, No griefs that wreck will be found on life's chart. Within the ocean of eternity. Diamante, Argentina.
