Faith in the Word

GOD’s promises are many and great, and exceeding precious. We have every encouragement to take these promises at their face value and trust absolutely in them, or, rather, trust God absolutely to fulfil His promises. But our trust in God should by no means be limited to His promises. There come, in the course of one’s life, situations and experiences which, so far as one can see, are not related to and relieved by any outstanding divine promise. Just here is a call for trust of the highest, fullest kind; that is, to trust God where there are no promises. After all, we are called to trust, not in the promises of the Lord, but in the Lord. And, verily, we can not trust in God’s promises in any great way until we have learned first to trust in Him. Having learned to trust in Him, it is easy and natural to trust in His promises, and to trust Him where there are no promises.—Word and Way.
