Australians Map the Road to Jerusalem

THE following cable, especially interesting to Australians, recently came through: Captain Thomas narrated how the British advance on Jerusalem was held up by the mountainous country. The old maps were found to be useless, and the Air Force was ordered to make a new map. An order was issued one night, and next day in one flight two Australians, Captain (now Sir) Ross Smith and Lieutenant Austin, photographed the whole area of thirty-seven square miles between the British force and the Holy City. Surveyors worked all the following night, and by next evening they had printed a map on a field press. Five days later Jerusalem was taken.
