Converts to Catholicism.

—Walter Elliott, a Paulist Father, in a sermon preached at the recent jubilee of that order, thus refers to the work of the Paulists in America in winning Protestants to the Catholic Church (we quote from the Western Watchman of Feb. 10, 1910): “What a change has taken place in the sentiment of the non-Catholics of America within the last fifty years! At that time they were fearful of the church, afraid to enter even its threshold. Half a century ago converts might be numbered by the hundred—they can now be numbered by the thousand. Much in this change of sentiment is due to the labors of this community, founded by Father Hecker.” The reason for this may be briefly stated: The people do not know the Bible.
