Judge Archbald Removed from Office

Judge Robert W. Archbald, of Scranton, Pa., for twenty-nine years occupying judicial positions upon the Pennsylvania State bench, on the Federal District bench and the United States Commerce Court, was on January 12, by the United States Senate, adjudged guilty of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” stripped of office, and disqualified forever from holding and enjoying “office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States;” sixty-eight voting for conviction, five against, and twenty-one absent or not voting. The charge was that he had used his office corruptly to further the interests of himself and friends in acquiring coal properties in Pennsylvania. He was found guilty on five of the thirteen charges preferred.
