Balkan War Negotiations Near Breaking Point
The latest on the Balkan question is that the ambassadors of the powers, through Sir Edward Grey, have warned both Dr. Daneff, head of the Bulgarian delegation, and Rechad Pasha, chief emissary of Turkey, “that should Europe again be plunged into war through the obstinacy of either side, the party at fault would incur a heavy weight of disapproval.” The demands upon which the powers are agreed, will be presented to the belligerent powers at once. It is thought that Turkey must make the decision, as the allies will not consent to Turkey’s retention of Adrianople. War still continues between the Turks and Greeks in Epirus and Janina. Later: The allies threaten to open war within a week. Turkey is threatened with anarchy in her own dominions.
