Policy or Principle?

WE are led to this question by a recent edict of the highest authority of Islam. The high priest, together with the Ulema Council, has the following to say to Mohammedans throughout the world: “The constitutional government in Turkey is in harmony with the tenets of Islam.” That of course we all would naturally believe; but it says further: “True Christians and Mohammedans worship the same true God, and therefore they are brethren. Sincere Christians have a right to a seat in Paradise also. Equality and fraternity between Christians, Mohammedans, and Jews must be emphasized by Mohammedanism, and practised by true followers of the prophet.” On the face of it that is certainly good, and the promulgation of the edict will help in the promulgation of the Gospel.
