The Humbug of Celebrated Baths

Doctor Woods Hutchinson is telling the world that the celebrated baths that are advertised so much, and in so many places, are no better than baths that can be had almost anywhere. “The baths,” says the doctor, “are just as big a humbugas the waters are when drunk. Lake water in a tub, a handful of salt, a pinch of plaster off the wall, and a basket of garden loam, will make as good a ‘rheumatiz’ cure as the best bath for which a grasping hotel manager ever charged five dollars. And the loam and the plaster do no good at that.” Our doctors are doing a splendid work for humanity, when they glaringly expose the humbuggery of the widely advertised “cures” that are such cunning yet bold frauds.
