His Only Heaven

By Delwin Rees Buckner
Be kind, O parent, to thy wayward son, Who chooseth not to tread where thou hast trod, Along the pathway toward the throne of God; But, restless, rather doth prefer to run In broad, paved boulevards, where Pleasure's sun Hurls phantom bows that arch the tinted sod, The which one can not capture, tho he plod In search of them 'til life itself be done. Thou'lt have a happy, whole eternity, Where Heaven's blessings never cease to flow, O, white-haired pilgrim, with thine eyes grown dim! But this sin-blighted, sorry earth will be The only heaven which thy boy will know, So make his days here pleasant ones for him.
