A Prayer for the New Year
By Miriam Switzer
God Triune, with perfect healing,
Grant Thy Spirit's aid to-day,
Thee in love and truth revealing
Heavenly consort on man's way.
Source of purity and power,
Cleanse and free my soul this hour. Bid Thy Spirit search me thoroughly;
Light each darkened hold of sin;
Purge with fire; then stablish truly
All Thy righteous law within.
Tho by error long beguiled,
Make me God's obedient child. Holy One, instruct, protect me
'Neath Thy panoply divine;
Guide and bless, chastise, correct me;
To Thy will my heart incline,
That each thought and act may chord
With the purpose of my Lord. God of Grace, with Thy rich blessing,
Fill, O, fill this life of mine.
Worldly claimants dispossessing,
Make me, Saviour, wholly Thine.
Thou, the truth, the life, the way,
Draw me nearer day by day. Mighty God, by word creating,
Blessed Advocate above,
Holy Spirit,—all are waiting
My dull soul to wake to love.
Life eternal, power divine,
Wake, O soul, and claim them thine.
