FOR HIS TEMPLE

By WORTHIE HARRIS HOLDEN
*In earthly forests and in earthly quarries, The Master for His temple must prepare; And for that building in the Glory-City, Each structure portion has minutest care.* *Within those walls, no stone shall be prepared, No timber hewn, nor saw nor hammer brought; So now for every niche and every turret The hewing and the squaring true is wrought.*
*The timber shivers as the blow falls heavy, And stones with fear behold the Master’s zest, Unseeing and unknowing His appointing— Forgetting, in their pain, their portion blessed.* *Ah, could we see the temple grand completed, Or sense the joy within His courts to be, No blow, howe’er severe, would wake a murmur, But praise that we are His eternally!*
