The Glory of the Night

Did not the sun go down we would not see the stars, we would not know the beauty by which the heavens are garnished. Men would not have told us of the glory and greatness of the countless suns and systems of shining orbs. It is so in spiritual life. We are now in earth’s long, dark night of sin. Sometimes the night is more deeply darkened by great cloud masses of sin and fogs of unbelief, and we long for the breaking of the morning, when “the Sun of Righteousness shall rise with healing in His beams.” Yet in the darkest night we know that beyond the clouds are the stars, and we thank God for their bright, clear shining from the black dome above—stars lighted of God, “burning and shining” lights along the way. Because of His goodness we have “songs in the night,” and because of the clear, shining stars the songs are multiplied.
